Choosing a drink at the bar can be tricky. Trying something new is tempting, but ordering your usual drink almost always guarantees satisfaction.We’re happy to offer a few alternative cocktails to order at the bar when you want to embrace adventure and try something new. Everyone has a different taste when it comes to cocktails, which is why we couldn’t just pick one cocktail to order at the bar. We narrowed it down to four cocktails for four different taste profiles and preferences: spicy, sweet, smoky, and sophisticated.
Best Cocktails to Order at the Bar
Spicy
HOT BLOODED
It takes bravery to get through this spicy cocktail. With ancho chile liqueur and hot sauce, there’s a lot to discover in this mixed drink.
- 2 oz Flying Ace Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- .5 oz Ancho Reyes ancho chile liqueur
- .5 oz blood orange juice, freshly squeezed
- .5 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed
- .5 oz simple syrup
- 4 dashes hot sauce
- Blood orange twist, garnish
- Lime twist, garnish
Add Flying Ace Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Ancho Reyes liqueur, blood orange juice, lime juice, simple syrup and hot sauce into a shaker with ice and shake until well-chilled. Strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with a blood orange twist and lime twist.

Sweet
HALEKULANI COCKTAIL
After a long day, there’s nothing better than winding down with a sweet cocktail at the bar with friends. Try out this bourbon-based tiki cocktail for a mental mini-vacation.
- 1.5 oz Flying Ace Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- .5 oz Demerara syrup
- 1 tsp grenadine
- .5 oz pineapple juice
- .5 oz orange juice
- .5 oz lemon juice
- 1 dash lemon juice
Combine all ingredients over ice in a cocktail shaker. Strain into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a pineapple wedge.

Smoky
MAVERICK’S OLD FASHIONED
Keeping a cocktail simple has its benefits. Notes of orange and sugar accent the smoky taste of bourbon rather than cover it, and every bartender knows how to make it!
- 2 oz Flying Ace Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- 3 dashes orange bitters
- 1 sugar cube
- Orange peel, garnish
Place the sugar cube in a rocks glass and cover it with bitters. Stir or muddle. Add Flying Ace Straight Bourbon Whiskey, ice, and stir. Express the orange peel over the drink.
Sophisticated
WHISKEY SOUR

- 2 oz Flying Ace Straight Bourbon Whiskey
- .75 oz fresh lemon juice
- .5 oz simple syrup
- Lemon wedge or cherry, optional garnish
Combine all ingredients with ice in a shaker. Shake well and strain into a rocks glass. Go the extra mile by adding a lemon wedge or cherry as garnish.
